Since a few days we are back "on the road" – even if we are still not in the best of health at the moment. The afterpains of our
severe colds haven't improved completely, which started in Singapore, continued in Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia and weren't totally
over in Medan/Indonesia. Somehow or other: We had to release our LandCruiser from the Indonesian customs, which arrived
a bit premature on February 24th, 2010, in Medan's port. Hence we flew on March 8th, from Kuala Lumpur to Medan, the 3rd
biggest Indonesian city – once more with the budget line AirAsia.

One day later, we visited together with a shipping agent – actually his main job is customs officer – the harbor: Unbelievable, but
within three hours, we could drive out without any problem! Subject to the condition that one is in possession of a "Carnet de
Passages en Douane", Belawan became one of the most trouble-free entry ports in Southeast Asia – not anymore to compare
what we had to endure on bureaucracy excesses four years ago on the occasion of our first visit to Indonesia.

Finally, we managed to leave the very hot and humid metropolis of Sumatra and to escape into the cooler mountains. Thus we
spent firstly a few days in the city of Berastagi at an altitude of 4'265ft., where the tribe of the Karo-Batak lives. Afterwards we
continued to Lake Toba at 2'970ft., which has a size of 440 sq.mi. Next was ferrying over to Pulau Samosir, a pretty big island
of 240 sq.mi. in the middle of the lake and home of the Tabo-Batak people. Now, we are at the island's Eastern shore in the
village of Tuktuk – a popular excursion and holiday area.

Berastagi/Sumatra/Indonesia: A Karo-Batak house in the vilage of Lingga in its traditional architectural style

After Easter,  we will carry on towards the South, following more or less along Sumatra's Western seashore, where on
December 26th, 2004, the devastating tsunami ravaged.
