Our "167th adventure" Papua New Guinea is unfortunately already history – we are on our way to the "168th", the Philippines!
Definitely the two countries cannot be compared. However, what both have in common is the uncertainty until the last minute
whether an entry for our car is granted.

But now first some highlights from the past:
1. the flight to Milne Bay in the Southeastern corner of PNG, with a touch of Pacific flavor
2. the visit of the Mount Hagen Cultural Show mid-August, at that time not yet with the car, because the freighter was delayed;
3. the drive from Lae to Madang and the helicopter ride offered by the American army to Bogia;
4. the trip to the Highlands of PNG for the Goroka Cultural Show mid-September, and finally
5. spotting our first Birds of Paradise in a magnificent natural landscape on the Kumul pass in the Enga Province.

Covering the distance of 1'102 miles, we didn't face any problems although sometimes we experienced some thrill. Hence we were
glad once the notorious hold-up sector between Kainantu and Henganofi in the Kompri Valley in the Eastern Highlands was safely
behind us.

It was a sad moment when we stuffed our LandCruiser in Lae on October 18th, – the 26th anniversary of our worldrecordtour
into its 20th container that marked actually the end of the visit to this extraordinary country. The following flights via Port Moresby,
Brisbane/Goldcoast/Australia to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia were just part of the dislocation.

Currently we are with friends in Brunei and are awaiting the OK to arrive from Manila. The Philippines still make difficulties
regarding a temporary car entry. We had to cancel already our first attempt in Manila back in 2007 due to unrealizable conditions
– on the other hand we were then able to visit the no less complicated but likewise spectacular Taiwan.

Goroka/Papua New Guinea: Worlds apart - Show participants from the Madang province

The sojourn in the Philippines is planned for three months. During our short visit on the island of Luzon early 2008 – while our
Toyota was on its way from Hong Kong to New Zealand – we haven't been able to discover a lot during the 14 days. We would
like to catch-up now, before we shall continue to Sri Lanka, our 169th country, in February 2011.
