On October 3rd, 2011, we finally could leave Tamatave (Toamasina) lying on the East coast of Madagascar. The inconveniences
mentioned in our previous "News" could be put aside and came to an end. We approached in good spirits Andasibe, the first target,
where we expected to see our first lemurs. And we really weren't disappointed – neither from the cute creatures, nor from the people,
the landscapes and the experiences. Only the huge poverty and the continuous deforesting damped down our enthusiasm somehow.

Due to the big distances and the relatively slow driving (curves and steep grades), a lot of time is needed besides the usual sightseeing.
Hence in the past four weeks we drove during 100 driving hours only 2'000 miles (= Ø 20miles/h). That it was interesting and beautiful
show the 1'800+ pictures we already shot. We plan to put some online as soon as possible. A small input – originating from our start in
Tamatave – is launched today simultaneously with this 'News October'.

What have we already seen? From the first lemurs we continued to the very lively capital Antananarivo and onwards via Antsirabe to
the Baobabs on the West coast near Morondava. After backtracking to Antsirabe, the second biggest city of Fianarantsoa followed. On
our second  trip to the West coast to the port city of Tuléar (Toliara), we visited the National Park of Isalo that ressembles undoubtedly
the West of America, particularly its rock formations. The small Anja reserve near Ambalavao with its ringtail lemurs was a lovely add-on.
On October 18th, 2011, we celebrated our 27th anniversary of "being on the road" in this pleasant region.

Unfortunately most roads in Madagascar have to been driven twice in a round-trip due to missing or broken cross-country routes. After
reaching Fianarantsoa for the second time, we headed to the Ranomafana National Park – close to the East coast – where we spotted
our third lemurs. Currently we are for the third time in Antsirabe and try to update our website that went somewhat short. The reason of
this neglect lies in the lack of time as in about half a month the big rainy season is supposed to start. Neither the roads nor the sceneries
won't be that nice again. We already had some pretty heavy thunderstorms and the mistiness is considerably on the increase.

Madagascar/Ranohira: In the National Park Isalo between Fianarantsoa and Tuléar along RN7

And this is our planned program for the following two weeks: Another small reserve of lemurs West of the capital Antananarivo; the
Northwestern port city of Majunga (Mahajanga) – 300 miles, as well as the most Northerly town of Diégo Suarez (Antsiranana) – a
further 600 miles that include the parks of Ampijoroa and Ankarana lying in between. The successive return of almost 1'000 miles on
the same way to the harbor city of Tamatave is still ahead of us too. What's next is not yet clear, with the exception that it'll be our
LandCruiser's 24th container to anywhere. Madagascar is big – but it's well worth the visit.
