The relocation from Miri/Sarawak on the island of Borneo to Dubai resp. Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates of the LandCruiser and its
occupants proceeded fantastically on time and was trouble-free. It involved three flights – Miri-Singapore [Malaysian Airlines]; Kuala Lumpur-
Colombo/Sri Lanka [Air Asia]; Colombo-Sharjah [Air Arabia]) – a bus ride (Singapore-Kuala Lumpur) and two shipping lines with the 26th
container during 278 boat trips – Bintulu/Sarawak-Hong Kong with a transshipment in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong-Dubai. It went like
clockwork – without any difficulties and nearly dead on time. Hence we were able to leave on November 22nd, 2012, at noon the huge
harbor area of Jebel Ali next to Dubai and are cruising since around in the even more impressive city complex of Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman. The
sensation caused by our car is immense, be it from the expats (Westerners and particularly Indians and Pakistani), but also from Arabs. The
second "rejuvenation" shows its effects, despite the age of the 30-year old car.

Although we are visiting now the region of the Emirates and Oman for the fourth time (1994, 1996, 1999), we are once more fascinated. It is
gigantism, which is barely comprehensible to a European – probably a bit comparable with Las Vegas, but on another level. Currently we still
have different priorities than sightseeing. e.g. a new passport (our 10th is filled-up by chops again); a new laptop (the previous from American
Samoa has problems with the cooling system); a new cellphone (the six-year-old from Indonesia is going to be played out). We already bought
a new portable printer (the old one from Oman didn't want to print anymore); and the shock absorbers as well as the broken spring leaf are
waiting to get changed too. Obviously a complete restoration is taking place (if it only would be that easy for the two of us!). That we are
giving a kind of free rein to our spending spree is not only due to the incomparable range of offers, but also because the Emirates charge only
reasonable duty fees but no VAT, what results mostly in bargain purchases. The only negative point so far is the huge traffic (nothing is really
perfect). While the 7-lane highway from Dubai to Abu Dhabi still absorbs more or less the volume of traffic, the 4-lane stretch from Dubai to
Sharjah is every day at every hour (also at midnight) helplessly congested, which incurs always 'stop-and-go' for about 30 to 60 minutes.
Fortunately the gasoline price is pretty cheap: US$ 1.82/gal.

Currently we are helping the German car magazine "Auto Bild" to write a multi-page story about our world tour, to be published in its Christmas
edition ("Weihnachten in der Wüste" Christmas in the desert). It's virtually a follow-up to the story of May 16th, 1997
"Unsere Wohnung hat vier Räder" (our residence carries four wheels).
