News August/September 2014              (Lubango/Angola, 10/2/2014)

Website statistics:   'Webalizer' has been shut down definitively in February 2013. 'Logaholic' is the current counter.
'Logaholic' shows now the following figures in July 2014: 18'659 visits / 69'839 pages
'Google-Analytics' showed 22'053 pageviews during July. The visitors come from ~228 countries!
                   ('Logaholic' June = 18'607 visits / 66'806 pages; May = 21'304 visits / 78'863 pages)
                        ('Google-Analytics': June = 22'426 pageviews / May = 25'239 pageviews)
Record day since 12/17/1998 = the birthday of our website: on 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits ('Webalizer')

Our last 'News' of June 30th, came still from Bangkok/Thailand where we put in a stopover for 5 days on the way from Kuala
Lumpur/Malaysia via Doha/Qatar, Johannesburg/South Africa to Windhoek in Namibia. During the 19 hours of flying altogether
we were able to gather the following experiences: We flew from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok with the new low-cost carrier
Malindo Air (Boeing 737-900), an offshoot of the Indonesian Lion Air and potential competition to Air Asia. By all means it
was more favorable and offered some "freebies", like 20 kg (44 lb) free luggage and a snack. Departing Bangkok it was once
more Qatar Airways, known by its "more or lesser" full service; initially with the "not so famous" Boeing 777-200 relatively
comfortable until Doha, and afterwards with the very uncomfortable Dreamline Boeing 787-8 to Johannesburg uncomfortable
because it was jam-packed and also due to its tight seating, both in width and length. At the new Doha airport we were able to
doze for a few hours on the freely provided reclining seats. The last flight from Johannesburg to Windhoek happened in an
Airbus 319-100 of South African Airways: The most pleasant but unfortunately the shortest regarding service and space.

As of now there's an end of flying, as we were able to get after exactly 80 days on July 17th, in Walvis Bay on Namibia's coast
our LandCruiser, which was arriving from Cape Verde [Maersk-Line needed now (2014) for the 3'820 miles long beeline the
same time as Jules Verne required already 1873 in his novel "Around the world in 80 days" (= 26'541 miles)]. Regarding the
customs procedures the release of the car was a breeze, though the unloading cost us a hefty US$ 1'060.

Namibia/Walvis Bay: Flamingos in der Bucht von Walvis Bay

Currently we are busy to do some smaller excursions in the region. Secondly we have to neaten the interior and the roof rack
of the Toyota, and last but not least to settle some accumulated repair and maintenance works besides feeding the website
and replying to emails. In another two-three days it will be time for "On the African roads again!
