News March/April 2016              (Kerman/Iran, 4/30/2016)

Website statistics:   'Webalizer' has been shut down in February 2013. 'Google-Analytics' is now the current counter.
'Google-Analytics' showed 24'154 pageviews during April 2016. The visitors came from 235 countries!
                        ('Google-Analytics': March = 23'182 pageviews / February = 23'957 pageviews)
'Logaholic' shows now the following figures in April 2016: 18'986 visits / 81'540 pages
                   ('Logaholic' March = 21'050 visits / 91'337 pages; February = 19'935 visits / 92'861 pages)
Record day since 12/17/1998 = the birthday of our website: on 11/5/2007 = 13'407 visitors and 787'456 hits ('Webalizer')

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again two months passed since our last "News February 2016". Before we left Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on
April 10th, 2016, on the ferry to Bandar Abbas in Iran, we were not only able to post 'belatedly' some of our currently overall
184 picture galleries with more than 9'000 photos (Djibouti, Ethiopia (1), Ethiopia (2), South Africa (1), South Africa (2),
South Africa (3), Lesotho and Sudan), but we got stamped also our Uzbekistan and Tajikistan visas into our passports. Only
the Turkmenistan transit visa has been staved off to its consulate in Mashhad/Iran that's what we hope at least. We had to drop
our initial plans via the Caucasus (Azerbaijan or ArmeniaGeorgia → Russia → Kazakhstan) due to time and bureaucracy
reasons (= Russia). Hence we should arrive on May 6th, 2016, at Khiva in Uzbekistan. Likewise we were able to order our
11th passport, which is sent to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan where it's ready to be collected. And last but not least: Shortly before
our departure from Sharjah we received the latest world record certificate of our Guinness World Record from its Dubai
branch office this time even framed.

After a quiet night on the vessel 'Hormuz 12' through the Arabian respectively Persian Golf to Bandar Abbas in Iran, we started
with the 'bureaucracy marathon' of our LandCruiser's release from the customs clutches. The notorious red-tape took six hours,
whereby, being unaware of the Farsi language, we wouldn't have succeeded to leave ever the port area without the help of a
local Iranian (contact available if requested).

Thereafter we drove northwards to Kerman (a city with 850'000 people). The road network is excellent, the people invariably
nice and courteous (unfortunately the language barrier is a huge problem), the landscapes are desert-like beautiful and the cities
hopelessly overcrowded by cars (where not?). After some excursions into the surroundings of Kerman (Kalut, Rayan, Mahan)
we are waiting now for the Turkmenistan visa.

United Arab Emirates/Dubai: Receipt of the certificate of the ‚Guinness World Records’ for „The Longest Driven Journey“

Actually the OK for the Turkmenistan transit visa should have arrived from Abu Dhabi/UAE after 10 working days on
April 21st, 2016 but until today nothing was heard. Six times we phoned already unsuccessfully with the Consulate, but we are
getting the longer it takes the more insecure, whether we shall ever receive the visa in Mashhad. Shall we belong to the 50% whose
application has been obviously refused nowadays without any reason by Ashgabat/Turkmenistan? If yes then what?
